                                                    Drawing inspiration from historical "moonstones" - carved stones at temple entrances in Sri Lanka, referencing designs from the Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, and Kandyan periods, Tharmalingam re-interprets their outlines and symbolic meanings as metaphors for stories of conflict and displacement. 
She sees them as symbols of continuity ¬¬-- ancestral wells, water and ancient forms, and the ways in which the past and present coexist within the post-war context.
