The work draws from the local landscape, specifically referencing the Thema tree—its leaves and branches serving as visual and symbolic elements. While rooted in the land, the depicted landscape remains intentionally blurred, reflecting the uncertain and often distorted ways we perceive our environment. The Thema flower, commonly found in various regions, evokes personal and collective memory. Though widespread, it holds specific cultural associations—often linked to prayer, mourning, and remembrance. Rather than grand monuments, Vinoja suggests that the landscape itself—its trees and flowers—can serve as powerful markers of memory. These natural elements, deeply tied to everyday life, witness and embody moments of public and private reflection.
