Using dots, knots, lines, and found materials, Vinoja plots topographies on a miniature scale to map the vast coastal and forested terrains of Sri Lanka. Her aerial views of evacuation routes, tents, checkpoints, and explosions delve into the landscape’s details, tracing the paths of displaced civilians who were denied safety and refuge in their own homeland. These works further reveal how ethnic discord, linguistic dominance, majoritarian politics, and a fractured liberation struggle have deeply scarred both human lives and ecological systems during the civil war.
