The original advertisement was produced in the Late Meiji period by the Nissin Kisen Co. Ltd., listing out its routes including Shanghai. Nissin Kisen was a local company established in 1907 by major merchant shipping companies of the time, and was absorbed by Toa Kaiun, a government affiliated company in 1937. The embroidered text reads as - jingsin are waterproof shoes made of leather that were preserved in perilla oil. Hobnails were set in the sole. The toe for the women’s jingsin offered less coverage than the jingsins for men and were more uncomfortable.
